The 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams also won titles. Poly won three individual titles, Susannah Laster taking the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Daria Lenz the diving title. Midway through the meet, they had an insurmountable lead and could not be caught by second-place Marlborough. The Panthers won the meet’s first two events and after the fifth event, they had two second-place and a third-place finish. A year after winning the Division 3 crown by 74 points, the Panthers took the division by 187 ½ points at the Riverside Aquatics Complex. The Pasadena Poly girls swim team made it look incredibly easy in 2016. It is never easy to repeat as a CIF Southern Section champion in any sport. She will swim for NCAA Division III Kenyon College of Gambier, Ohio, next year.Ĭoach of the year: Colin Allen, Pasadena Poly Otazu also helped the 200 medley relay team to a fourth-place finish and the 200 freestyle relay team to an 11th-place finish. Her time in the 200 IM was 19th fastest of all CIF-SS divisions. The time was the ninth-fastest of all four CIF-SS divisions.
But the time was still 0.61 seconds off the division record, a time she said she wanted to get. She won in 55.78, bettering her personal-best time by 0.20 seconds from last year’s finals. Otazu did not quite do what she wanted in the back.
